Media

Creating a magazine cover and a double-page spread.

Media I thoroughly enjoyed when I was studying the subject as it enabled me to incorporate my interest in fashion into the projects we did.

This was a project created as part of my media coursework in which we had to recreate a magazine cover and double-page spread. The cover and double-page spreads were produced in Photoshop allowing me to expand my skills on the programme. Any magazine could be chosen but I decided on Cosmopolitan due to having the most knowledge about the magazine and it being my favourite. I took inspiration from the February 2017 cover of Emma Willis.

Attention to detail was a large part of this project as small factors had to be thought about such as: effects on the text like shadowing and spacing as well as the sharp outline of the image. We had to take the photos for the covers ourselves, in which I styled the cover star to trends that were appropriate at the time.

For the double-page spread, created was an interview-style piece with an upcoming fashion blogger, something that relates to the style of what Cosmopolitan would publish. The Cosmopolitan style and layout was carried on, taking inspiration from many of their double-page spreads. When creating the spreads, I focused on fashion pieces, in which the specific section was called "wear", the same as Cosmopolitan.

To this day this is my favourite project that I have worked on due to it being all about magazines, one of my favourite things, especially Cosmopolitan. Also, through it being created on Photoshop it started my interest for digital design and allowed me to gain further skills in Photoshop.
